For multi-stage pump, it can be considered to remove an impeller at the discharge end, and add a distance sleeve. It is not allowed to remove the impeller at the inlet end, so as to avoid cavitation caused by increasing the inlet resistance.

The first two methods are mostly used in axial flow pump and mixed flow pump, while the latter should be used to prevent cavitation of centrifugal pump.
